Mara Clara, Mutya tie for top spot in the nationwide TV ratings

'Mara Clara' and 'Mutya' both grabbed the top spot in the nationwide ratings released by Kantar Media / TNS for Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

Despite GMA 7's "Captain Barbell" joining the competition starting last Monday, the said two Kapamilya shows remain the strongest primetime programs along with 3 other Kapamilya shows which took the 3rd to 5th slots in the Top 10 rankings.

The remaining 5 in the Bottom 10 all came from GMA 7.

When it comes to the daytime ranking, 3 Kapuso programs are the consistent leaders and they are "Eat Bulaga", "Temptation Of Wife" and "My Lover My Wife".

Only two ABS-CBN shows entered the Top 10: "Showtime" and the new show from Korea, "My Princess".

For the first time, GMA 7's "Alakdana" failed to rank in the Top 10. Previously, Alakdana usually ranked in the Top 5.

Ramon Credo, Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, Elizabeth Batain executed in China | Credo's ashes arrive home

Ramon Credo, Sally Ordinario-Villanueva and Elizabeth Batain were the three Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who were executed thru lethal injection in China yesterday, March 30, 2011.

The execution thru lethal injection came 3 years after the three were arrested in 2008 for drug trafficking and 2 years after they were convicted and sentenced to death.

Credo and Ordinario, both 42, were executed in China's southeastern city Xiamen while Batain was executed in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province at the Southern part of China and north of Hong Kong.

As of latest update, Ramon Credo's ashes from China have already arrived in the country and were brought to his home in Cavite. Here's a video report from GMA News:

For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV

The whole Philippines is mourning for the death of Credo, Villanueva and Batain.

I actually can't take watching the heartbreaking news reports on TV last night, because I can really feel the pain and grief of the bereaved families.

Some celebs have also expressed their sadness on Twitter over what happened and ask everyone to pray for their souls:

Angel Locsin (@143redangel): Let's pray for the souls of the 3 Pinoys executed in China

Camille Prats (@CamillePrats): Let us pause for a while and pray for the souls of the filipinos who were executed in China. May this serve as a lesson to all of us.

Kiray Celis (@kiraycelis): To the three Filipinos who were executed in china, RIP! at hindi lang isa! tatlo pa! wala tayong magagawa. ganun batas sakanila. haay! ☹ ☹ ☹

'Catch Me I'm In Love' rules Philippine box-office with P52.95 million in 5 days

'Catch Me I'm In Love', which stars Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson, is the 4th Pinoy film to open this 2011 but it's so far the only certified box-office hit of the year.

Figures for the period March 23-27, 2011 are now available at BoxOfficeMojo.com and posted there is the P52.95 million 'Catch Me I'm In Love' in its first five days.

The Star Cinema-Viva Films co-produced movie topped the Philippine weekend box-office for that period, beating other new releases such as 'Sucker Punch', 'Justin Bieber: Never Say Never' and 'Limitless'.

That's quite a strong turnout because it's higher than the two box-office hits last year ("My Amnesia Girl" with 5-day opening gross of P43.9M and "Here Comes the Bride" with 5-day opening of P42.1M), and it almost surpassed the P53.2M first 5 days earnings of 'Petrang Kabayo'.

And when compared to the 1st 5 days grosses of Sarah's previous films, 'Catch Me I'm In Love' opening weekend almost reached the P58.45 opening weekend of 'A Very Special Love' in 2008, far lower than 'You Changed My Life' with P97.89M in 2009, but it's definitely much higher than last year's 'Hating Kapatid' with P43.1 M.

The movie also fared better than Gerald's films with Kim Chiu shown last year. 'Paano Na Kaya' had P41.4M and 'Till My Heartaches End' earned P33.0M during their first 5 days.

Meanwhile, 'Who's That Girl' which was solely produced by VIVA and released last March 2 has only earned P56.91 million in 4 weeks.

No data available yet from Box Office Mojo for the over-all gross receipts of February releases "Bulong" and "My Valentine Girls". But "Bulong" earned P67.27 million in 4 weeks while "My Valentine Girls" raked in only P44.26 million in 3 weeks.

Willing Willie March 12 episode, Jan-Jan and Willie make headlines worldwide

Willing Willie's episode last March 12, which featured a sexy dance of an innocent 6-year-old boy, is now making global headlines after it has become a national controversy in the Philippines.

Several international news organizations have already reported about the said controversial episode in their respective web sites.

Here are some of them:

Daily Mail Online in UK: Tears of humiliation: Boy, 6, mocked by audience as he danced for cash on TV show

BusinessWeek in New York City: Philippine TV host sorry for 6-yr-old's sexy dance

7Days in U.A.E.: Striptease anger

Gulf Times in Qatar: Probe launched into child abuse accusation

METRO in the UK: Tearful boy, 6, 'traumatised' after being mocked on TV game show

For this issue to catch global attention, there must be something wrong with that Willing Willie episode.

I feel sad for Jan-Jan coz he might suffer trauma for the so-much media hype, not only in the Philippines but also in the world. He will grow up being haunted by this controversy.

Richard Gutierrez comeback soap 'Captain Barbell' posts same ratings on its first 2 nights

However, when ranked over-all, it dropped from #2 on its pilot night to 4th on its 2nd night.

Still on top is "Mara Clara", while "Baker King" is climbing up, from #7 last Monday to #2 last night.

For two consecutive nights, "TV Patrol" didn't rank in the Top 10.

Willing Willie March 12 episode strongly condemned by CHR

'Willing Willie' March 12 episode, which featured 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan doing macho dance in exchange of P10,000, has been strongly condemned by the Commission on Human Rights or CHR.

In its statement released March 29, 2011, CHR noted that the said March 12 episode of Willing Willie exploited Jan-Jan's innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.

CHR also pointed out that Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame are not the only ones who committed child abuse, but also Jan-Jan's parents because of their willingness to expose him to such humiliating and degrading situation.

Last March 28, Jan-Jan's parents already appeared on Willing Willie and for them, the show and its host did not abuse their child. (Read about it HERE and join the discussion).

Here's the full statement, as posted on Facebook by journalist Ms. Ellen Tordesillas:

Commission on Human Rights
For Release
29 March 2011

CHR on Child Abuse in the TV program Willing Willie

The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns the “Willing Willie” episode aired on March 12, 2011 wherein a 6-year old boy named Jan-Jan Suan performed a “macho-dancing routine”. This is an exploitation of the child’s innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.

The multiple pressures exerted on Jan-Jan by the TV program’s host, audience, and his parents to perform a humiliating act in exchange for ten thousand pesos constitute child abuse as defined in Section 10 of R.A. No. 7610 or “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.” It provides that:

Other Acts of Neglect, Abuse, Cruelty or Exploitation and Other Conditions Prejudicial to the Child's Development. –

(a) Any person who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child's development including those covered by Article 59 of Presidential Decree No. 603, as amended, but not covered by the Revised Penal Code, as amended, shall suffer the penalty of prision mayor in its minimum period.

The willingness of Jan-Jan’s parents to expose him, both in private and public, to a humiliating and degrading situation is child abuse. The Commission is also deeply alarmed that the abuse suffered by Jan-Jan was seen on national television and that its videos are being repeatedly watched by the public, including children.

The Commission will investigate this incident in order to identify the person/s liable and to recommend proper legal actions against them. The Commission will also issue recommendations to relevant private, especially TV5, and public agencies in order to prevent similar incidents from happening again. The Commission also calls upon the relevant government offices such as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Justice to undertake the appropriate actions to address this incidence of child abuse and to provide the necessary relief to Jan-Jan.

LORETTA ANN P. ROSALES
Chairperson

MA. VICTORIA V. CARDONA

Focal Commissioner for Children

Meanwhile, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board or MTRCB will also release their own findings with regards to that Willing Willie episode this coming Monday, April 4, 2011.

Who's That Girl? Box-Office Gross: P54.28 million in 3 weeks

Box Office Mojo finally released the box-office figure for Viva Films' "Who's That Girl?" which starred Anne Curtis and Luis Manzano.

The said Wenn Deramas film which opened in theaters last March 2 has earned P54.28 million after 3 weeks or for the period Mar. 2 to 19.

The figure is lower than the P64.28M 3-week gross receipts of Star Cinema's 'Bulong' but it's higher than the P44.26M 3rd week earnings of GMA-Regal co-production 'My Valentine Girls', which were both shown in February.

Last March 23, another Pinoy film ('Catch Me I'm Fallin') has opened in theaters, but no figure yet has been released for its opening week.

Gluten Free Diet

Have you noticed an abundance of gluten-free foods available in grocery stores or on menus these days? Perhaps the proliferation of gluten-free products, as well as marketing them, lead you to believe that they are a new medicine to better health or weight loss.
So, what is the real story? Will go on a diet free of gluten improve your health or help you lose weight? The answer is that it depends. Reduce the intake of gluten means you agree to dispense with a lot of starches and refined carbohydrates, and this in itself can help in your weight and health. Eating gluten-free, however, is a must for those with celiac disease, who face a real risk of eating gluten.

What is gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye products. Containing gluten, most types of grain and bread. Examples of grain-free gluten include wild or brown rice and quinoa, millet, buckwheat and amaranth.
What is not known widely on the gluten-free products is that they still contain the same number of carbohydrates that contain gluten counterparts. In this regard, and there is no health benefit for the selection of gluten-free versions.
For example, a typical slice of bread free of gluten contains 15 grams of total carbohydrates - the same amount of ordinary slice of bread. A snack of biscuits free from gluten containing 30 grams of carbohydrates per meal, the same as the regular crackers.

Korean drama 'My Princess', 'Mula Sa Puso' remake and the return of 'Captain Barbell': Which program scored high pilot ratings in Mega Manila?

Korean drama 'My Princess' and the remake of 90's soap 'Mula Sa Puso' both failed to beat competitions during its pilot last Monday, March 28, 2011.

These two shows are part of ABS-CBN's Kapamilya Gold plug and the Kapamilya network had high hopes that they will do well in the ratings, but unfortunately, they failed.

AGB Nielsen's figures show that My Princess got 3.4% people rating in Mega Manila as against GMA 7's 'Temptation Of Wife' while 'Mula Sa Puso' garnered 5.9%, almost half of the ratings scored by 'Magic Palayok' on GMA 7.

Both shows also failed to at least enter the Top 10 Programs Ranking.

Meanwhile, GMA 7 attempted to reclaim primetime supremacy last Monday when Richard Gutierrez returned as Captain Barbell.

With a pilot rating of 13.9%, 'Captain Barbell' was able to beat rival programs shown on the same timeslot ('Mutya' 13.5%, 'Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin' 13.6%), however it failed to beat 'Mara Clara' which still leads in the over-all primetime rankings with 16% rating.

Top 10 Daytime Programs for March 28, 2011:

9. Kapuso Movie Festival: The Untold Story of Melanie Marquez (GMA) 4.7%
10. Ghost Fighter (GMA) 4.6%

Top 10 Primetime Programs for March 28, 2011:
1. Mara Clara (ABS-CBN) 16%
2. Captain Barbell (GMA) pilot - 13.9%
3. Dwarfina (GMA) 13.8%
4. Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin (ABS-CBN) 13.6%
5. Mutya (ABS-CBN) 13.5%
6. I ♥You Pare (GMA) 12.9%
7. The Baker King (GMA) 12.7%
8. 24 Oras (GMA) 11.3%
9. Magic Palayok (GMA)
9. Imortal (ABS-CBN) 10.5%

If you notice, no ABS-CBN shows have made it to the Top 10 Daytime Programs.

GMA 7 somehow has a stronger primetime line-up now as the ratio in the Top 10 primetime program rankings has become 6:4, 6 for GMA and only 4 for ABS-CBN.

However, the 2011 'Captain Barbell' still failed. Why? Because the 2006 Captain Barbell really had overwhelming pilot rating of 37.6 (household rating) while the 2011 version only has 25% household rating.

And when compared to the pilot ratings of other primetime shows this 2011, Captain Barbell is only ranked 3rd and 'Dwarfina' even posted much higher debut rating.

1. Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin (ABS-CBN) 15.6% pilot rating - Mar. 7
2. Dwarfina (GMA) 15.4% - Jan. 10
3. Captain Barbell (GMA) 13.9% - Mar. 28
4. Machete (GMA) 12.8% - Jan. 24
5. Mutya (ABS-CBN) 11.9% - Jan. 31
6. I Heart You Pare (GMA) 11.4% - Feb. 7
7. Magic Palayok (GMA) 11.1% - Feb. 28
8. Babaeng Hampaslupa (TV5) 9.8% - Feb. 7
9. Green Rose (ABS-CBN) 7.1% - Feb. 14
10. Cinderella's Sister (ABS-CBN) 5.9% - Jan. 17
10. Mula Sa Puso (ABS-CBN) 5.9% - Mar. 28

Jackie Chan died of heart attack: 2011 Death Rumor

Jackie Chan, 56, allegedly died of heart attack Monday night, March 28, 2011.

That's according to a website which looks like Australia's Yahoo!7News (au.news.yahoo.com).

The website using the link url pastehtml.com claims that a Los Angeles hospital confirmed Jackie Chan's death after he suffered a heart attack while promoting new movie 'Kung Fu Panda 2'.

The sad news about this Chinese Hollywood superstar immediately circulated on social networking sites, such as on Twitter and the terms "RIP Jackie Chan" made it to top trending topics on Twitter.

The original tweet stating that Jackie Chan is dead generated more than 14,000 retweets.

But it turned out to be just another death hoax this 2011.

Jackie Chan's representative has already issued a statement both on Twitter and Facebook denying that he passed away. "Jackie Chan is alive and well. He did not suffer heart attack and die, as what was reported in many social networking sites and in online news reports. Jackie is fine and is busy preparing for the filming of his next movie."

I think the new movie that he's currently filming is "1911", which is said to be Jackie Chan's 100th movie and is due for release in September.

So, don't believe the rumor guys. And remember, the April Fool's Day is coming in 3 days, so this could be an early April Fool's joke.

Willing Willie and Willie Revillame defended by Jan-Jan Suan's parents against child abuse allegations

Willing Willie's episode last night, March 28, 2011, featured again 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan and this time with his parents to defend Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame against allegations that the show and the host have abused their child during its March 12 episode.

Jan-Jan's appearance on Willing Willie last March 12 where he showcased his "macho dancing" skills as his talent has become a controversial topic on the internet, most especially yesterday, to the extent that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has issued a statement, condemning the said episode and deemed it as a violation of the Child Abuse law. (Read more about it HERE).

"Willing Willie" even made it to Twitter's top trending topics worldwide last night, just because of that.

And now, on last night's episode of Willing Willie, Jan-Jan brought along his parents to explain that they didn't teach Jan-Jan the said dance (it's his elder cousin who taught the dance), that for them Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame did not abuse their child.

According to Jan-Jan's dad Jojo Estrada, who has his own parlor business, his son has been doing the said dance since he was 4 years old and he loves to dance to the tune of "Careless Whisper" (the controversial song in the Hayden Kho - Katrina Halili video scandal.)

Jan-Jan's mom has also pointed out that some shows in other channels, they mentioned ABS-CBN's Goin' Bulilit, are the ones that DSWD should look into.

Miguel Villafuerte to return from New York on April 12, and possibly to get serious with Sarah Geronimo

Miguel Villafuerte, the rumored suitor of singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, is coming back to the Philippines on April 12, 2011.

Miguel Villafuerte had to fly back to New York where he's studying Political Sciene and according to Nitz Miralles' article on Journal Online last March 25, that's the reason why Miguel failed to attend the premiere night of Sarah's movie "Catch Me, I'm In Love".

Instead, he just sent flowers to Sarah during the premiere.

And now that he's set to come home this April, what's the next thing to happen between Sarah and Miguel? Go out on a date perhaps?

***

By the way, Bombo Radyo reported last February that Miguel Villafuerte is reportedly running as CamSur Governor in 2013 Elections to rival his own grandfather, Cam Sur 3rd District Rep. Luis Villafuerte Sr.

Probably by that time, he already has Sarah Geronimo as his girlfriend.

Willie Revillame and TV5 issue apology for Willing Willie's 'Jan-Jan' March 12 episode

Willing Willie host Willie Revillame, its producers and the TV5 Management have issued a joint statement expressing their sincerest apologies to the March 12, 2011 episode of Willing Willie.

That particular episode featured 6-year-old studio player Jan-Jan Suan for the show's "Wiltime Bigtime" segment wherein the child did a "macho dancing" during the talent portion. (Watch video HERE).

Here's Willie Revillame and TV5's statement of apology as posted on Interaksyon.com, the online news portal of TV5:

Mr. Willie Revillame, the producers of "Willing Willie" and TV5 sincerely and deeply apologize for the segment of the show featuring 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan which viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste. We wish to stress that there was never any intention to humiliate or abuse Jan-Jan or any contestant on the show.

"Willing Willie" is a program that was conceptualized to bring joy and hope and shine the spotlight on ordinary Filipinos. The program aims to provide a venue for everyone to show their talents, tell their stories and make their dreams come true. This is the thrust of everyone involved in the program, particularly its host, Willie Revillame.

Like most contestants on the show, Jan-Jan, accompanied by his aunt, joined the program to showcase his talent and play in a game segment in the hope of bringing home big prizes. He has performed in the past in school programs and mall contests, and his performance in "Willing Willie" was completely voluntary and with the blessings of his parents.

He appeared to be sad or even in tears, not because he was being forced to dance, but because he felt the dance was "serious" and he was playing a role. He did not want to smile because of his missing upper front teeth and because of the presence on the set of former basketball player Bonel Balingit who Jan-jan thought was a scary "giant".

Again, TV5 and Wil Productions express profound regret for any insensitivity on their part, and wish to thank all those who have expressed concern. We are always grateful to be reminded of our obligations to the viewing public. In turn, we hope to make clear that the objective of the show has always been to bring joy and hope to Filipinos, whether they are participating on the show or viewing at home.

***

As what you can read in the statement, it says that what Jan-Jan did was completely voluntary. But how can they explain the later part of the show wherein Jan-Jan was shown dancing on a platform? Was it still voluntary? Did Jan-Jan ask for it or was asked to do so by Willie?

And definitely, "Fallin" is just one of the many songs by Sarah Geronimo which reached the #1 spot on MYX Hit Chart. In the previous years, her #1 songs in the said countdown included "Dahil Minahal Mo Ako", "You Changed My Life in a Moment", "A Very Special Love", "Ikaw" and "I Still Believe In Loving You".

Willing Willie Video Scandal: 'Macho Dancing' of Jan-Jan, a 6-year-old boy

Willing Willie host Willie Revillame is embroiled in another controversy because of his show's March 12, 2011 episode (video below) which featured him poking fun at a 6-year-old boy named Jan-Jan who was doing 'macho dancing' while he's crying.

The said episode has prompted the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to issue a letter of protest against Willing Willie, its host Willie Revillame and TV5 management.

According to the official statement by the DSWD posted on its official website this afternoon, they violated Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

DSWD is now asking TV5 management not to allow children to appear on Willing Willie.

Read the statement from DSWD:

PRESS STATEMENT of DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman on the Case of the Child “Jan-Jan” Shown in Willing Willie

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) condemns the emotional abuse and humiliation bestowed on a six-year-old child contestant, during the March 12, 2011 episode of the Willing Willie show aired on TV 5.

The sequence shows the boy gyrating in a distasteful manner with the audience, including the host (Willie Revillame), manifesting no evidence of concern or alarm for the child. This incident is clearly a violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and a blatant manifestation of child abuse. The term “child abuse” includes the following acts: “psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment,” and “any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of the child as a human being.”

Putting pressure on children to do acts such as mimicking adult sexy dances, in exchange for a certain amount of money, and at the expense of being laughed at and ridiculed by hundreds of people, clearly traumatizes the child. This is a clear form of child abuse and will not be tolerated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The Department has already communicated to ABC Development Communication Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan asking that children should not be allowed to appear in TV shows like Willing Willie, especially those capitalizing on poverty as a source of immediate entertainment. In the formal communication with Mr. Pangilinan, the Department has also rebuked the insensitive actions and remarks of Mr. Revillame.

The DSWD will look for the family, determine the effect/impact on the child and from here determine if necessary counseling and/or stress debriefing should be given to the child and his parents to prevent further trauma and abuse, especially with the media hype triggered by this incident. ### (DSWD – Social Marketing Service) March 28, 2011

I think his parents have also violated RA 7610 for teaching their child the said dance and definitely, for bringing him in the show and allowing that thing to happen, in exchange of money.

Miguel Villafuerte from CamSur's Villafuerte political clan is Sarah Geronimo's new suitor

Miguel Villafuerte, 23, is reportedly courting PopStar Princess and 'Catch Me I'm In Love' star Sarah Geronimo.

Boy Abunda revealed that on The Buzz yesterday and Nitz Miralles of journal.com.ph reported last Thursday that it was Miguel Villafuerte who sent a bouquet of flowers to Sarah during the premiere night of "Catch Me I'm In Love" last March 22.

Mykiru was able to get pictures of Miguel who I can say is as hunky and goodlooking as Sarah's ex-boyfriend Rayver Cruz. Check him out!

(FIRST SEEN HERE ON MYKIRU!)

What can you say Popsters? Pasado ba? Do you like Miguel for Sarah?

Miguel Villafuerte is the eldest son of CamSur Governor Luis Raymond 'Lray' Villafuerte and grandson of Cong. Luis Villafuerte Sr.

Sarah already met Miguel when she staged a major concert in CamSur in
December of 2009.

The singer-actress has also endorsed the provincial tourism of Camarines Sur.

Here's a photo of Sarah with "future in-laws?" Gov. L-Ray and wifey Lara: (courtesy of the Philippine Star)

Miguel's parents are reportedly so supportive of his intention to court Sarah.

Interestingly, Miguel's nick is also Miggy, name of John Lloyd Cruz's in two movies with Sarah. Could he be Sarah's real-life "Miggy Montenegro"?

Jason Ivler's mom Marlene Aguilar plans to enter showbiz

Marlene Aguilar, mother of road shooting suspect Jason Ivler, has expressed her intention to enter the showbiz world.

photo of Marlene Aguilar, Jason Ivler's mother

Marlene Aguilar guested this afternoon on GMA's Showbiz Central and sat down for the show's "Don't Lie To Me" segment hosted by John Lapus.

During her guesting, Marlene was asked with many questions, and she gamely and honestly answered all of them.

One of the questions was: "Sinasamahan mo ba ng arte ang mga interview mo sa TV?" and Marlene said YES.

Lapus also asked, "Sa tingin mo, may naging pagkukulang ka sa pagpapalaki mo kay Jason Iver?". Marlene again answered YES.

She also said YES to the question if she's willing to enter showbiz and then revealed that she enrolled before in the "best acting school" in New York and was once part of a foreign film.

And for her dream role, Marlene wishes to play a "diwata ng lagim" or a "dyosa ng dilim".

However, when asked who she wants to be her leading man, she couldn't name one because according to her, she doesn't watch TV at home thus she doesn't know any actors' names. Oh really?

Marlene's son Jason Ivler once entered showbiz when he played Bullet in the hit 90's youth-oriented show T.G.I.S. while his brother Freddie Aguilar was an OPM hitmaker during the 70's and 80's.
